Set in the marshlands and harshlands of east London, this urban pastorale long poem explores the ‘edgeland’, a landscape of wreckage of war and industry—railway sidings, sewage works, filter beds, impounded and culverted rivers, and abandoned factories—populated by veterans, redundant workers, displaced people, Travellers, migrants, asylum seekers. It is their voices and traces of their presence in the landscape and in the language which resonate.
